In Sacramento, there is a wide range of spider species that we must contend with. Most spiders are tiny and harmless (some spider's mouths are too small to bite humans!), and merely brushing them away or relocating them outside is enough. However, several types of spiders are more invasive and are a nuisance. These spiders can make a mess in your homes with their webs, and you don't want them reproducing and overrunning your home.

Certain species are more prone to biting, like the yellow sac spider, that often find their way inside our homes. While most of these spiders only bite when provoked, when you unexpectedly find them in your sheets, shoes, or clothes, you can get bit. Additionally, a few of these spiders are poisonous and can pose a health risk, such as the black widow.

Many people call us because they are concerned about brown recluse spiders. While these spiders are very poisonous, they are somewhat rare in the Sacramento area. They are more common to the deserts of Southern California. You can identify a brown recluse by the violin pattern on its head, and the fact that it is a uniform brown color.

Spiders are drawn into homes and offices looking for food and warmth. Once inside, they tend to make their webs and nests in dark, enclosed places where they are likely to go undisturbed. However, this can be very inconvenient for us.
